ZRI epitomise the refinement of the classical concert stage mixed with tavern grit and gypsy flair. They play the gypsy music that Brahms loved listening to in the Viennese tavern Zum Roten Igel – ‘The Red Hedgehog’ – hence the name, ZRI.

Brahms often drew on ‘folk’ styles in his own writing. So think of ZRI as a Hungarian gypsy band that can also play Brahms – and that helped him to let out some of his repressed late-19th-century emotions.
